Driving License’s in Kenya are issued by the National Transport and Highways Authority (NTSA) through their online portal of NTSA TIMS in various locations throughout the country. 

Holders of valid Kenyan driving licenses may drive the vehicles covered by their licenses in the country unreservedly. This however, is provided that their license is current, and their driving privileges in Kenya have not been withdrawn. 

However, holders of expired driving licenses may no longer drive on Kenyan roads and are advised to consider renewing or obtaining a new driving license. 

Simply put, renewing a driving license in Kenya is easy.

We shall guide you through the simple steps with pictures on how to renew your driving licensee in Kenya via the new revamped NTSA Tims online portal.

DRIVING LICENCE RENEWAL VIA NTSA 

Before we guide you on the license renewal steps, lets cover some NTSA house rules related to all driving license renewals via their portal.

NTSA requires that all applicants fill in the renewal application accurately and completely, and explain the duration of renewal.

Applicants are required to upload a copy of their existing Driving license (DL) and scan plus upload a copy of their ID. 

Note that the renewal fee is done by electronic payment. Additionally, please note that this service attracts a convenience fee of Kes. 50.     

The application once submitted will be verified by NTSA staff. Thereafter, DL printing and issuing after approval.

APPLYING FOR DRIVING LICENCE RENEWAL IN KENYA

Here is the first step of applying for Driving License renewal, electronic payment await verification after applicants filling in all the information correctly and completely.

Step 1: Log in to the new NTSA Tims https://timsvirl.ntsa.go.ke/portal.

To log into the NTSA Tims onlhttps://timsvirl.ntsa.go.ke/ine portal, you need to register an NTSA TIMs account. If you don’t have one simply click on register and follow prompts to create an account. 

If you have an existing account, then log in. Simply select your preferred login method (National ID, Alien Diplomatic ID, Certificate of incorporation etc.)  key in user name and password and complete login with the one-time password (OTP) and sign in.

If you have an account but forgot the password, you can easily change your NTSA TIMS account password on the portal from the home page.

Step 2:  Click on Driving License tab (somewhere in the middle) on the green bar at the top but not topmost page of website.

Step 3: On the side bar to the left select driving license renewal\ Driving License Renewal

Step 4: Confirm that service you want is to apply for a new Driving license, the application Fee (DL renewal either for one year or 3 years) plus applicable convenience fee (standard KES 50)

Step 5: Click on next down below and confirm once more that all your details as captured on the new NTSA Tims portal are correct then click on pay.

Step 6: Select a preferred payment method available on NTSA.

Options available are: -M-pesa, Debit/Credit/Prepaid Card, Airtel Money,  EazzyPay via Equitel sim cards, Equity Eazzy Banking App, Telkom T-Kash,  E-Agent, KCB Cash ,  Equity Cash

Note that payment once made is non-refundable. 
Further to avoid any inconveniences when making the driving license renewal, please note that you should not underpay or overpay the indicated amount.
