Book NTSA Motor Vehicle Inspection In Kenya Today
This is a simple guide on how to book your NTSA motor vehicle inspection in Kenya. The inspection is usually done to ensure that the vehicle conforms to the National Transport and Safety Authority road regulations.
According to NTSA, all private vehicles which are more than four years old from the recorded date of manufacture must undergo a motor vehicle inspection test after every two years while all Commercial vehicles, Public Service Vehicles and School Buses must undergo a preregistration inspection before registration and an annual periodic motor vehicle inspection thereafter.
All salvage vehicles must undergo a salvage motor vehicle inspection. The regulations also state that all vehicles shall be subject to random traffic motor vehicle inspection tests. The following parts of a motor vehicle are inspected during an annual periodic inspection by NTSA.
1.(a) Lamps, reflectors and electrical equipment systems. This includes the following:
- Front and Rear Position Lamps
- End Outline Marker Lamps
- Registration Plate Lamps
- Stop Lamps
- Direction Indicators and Hazard Warning Lamps
- Rear Reflectors
- Audible Warning (Horn)
- Headlamps
- Headlamp Aim
- Electrical Wiring and Battery
(b) Steering and Suspension system. This includes the following
- Steering Control
- Steering System
- Power Steering
- Front Suspension
- Wheel Bearings and Drive Shafts
- Rear Suspension and Wheel Bearings
- Shock Absorbers
(c) Brakes system
- Parking Brake Control
- Hand Operated Brake Control Valves
- Anti-Lock Braking and Electronic Stability Control Systems
- Mechanical Brake Components
- Braking Systems and Additional Braking Devices
(d) Tyres and Road Wheels
- Tyres
- Road Wheels
(e) Seat Belts
- Seat Belt Anchorage
- Seat Belt Condition
- Seat Belt Installation Check
(f) Body, Structure and General items
- Vehicle Structure
- Body and General Items
- Seats and Doors
- Registration Plates and Vehicle Identification Number
- Load Security, Spare Wheel and Carrier

(g) Exhaust, Fuel and Emissions

2.The following parts of a commercial vehicle shall be inspected during an inspection:
- Those parts of a motor vehicle referred to in subsection (1)
- Speed limiter
- Fire extinguisher
- Headache Rack
- Load securement device
- Underride protection devices
- Retro-reflective markings.
(3) The following parts of a Public Service Vehicle shall be inspected during a periodic inspection
- Those parts of a motor vehicle referred to in subsection (1)
- speed limiter
- fire extinguishers
- emergency door indicator
- signs and lettering
- first aid kits
- service and emergency doors
- step well
(4) The following parts of a trailer or converter dolly shall be inspected during a periodic inspection:
- Those parts of a motor vehicle referred to in subsection (1)
- Brakes (if so equipped
- coupling devices and towing connections
- frame and cross members
- glazing (if so equipped)
- landing gear (if so equipped)
- retro-reflective markings
- load securement devices
- underride protection devices.
(5) The following parts of a motorcycle shall be inspected during a periodic inspection:
(a) Those parts of a motor vehicle referred to in subsection (1)
- frame and forks
- handle bars
- footrests
- chain, belt or drive-shaft protection
NTSA Re-Inspection Test.
5. Where a vehicle fails an inspection, the owner of the vehicle shall cause all necessary repairs to be made and within fourteen days of the date of rejection, the owner shall return the vehicle for re-inspection to the same centre at no extra cost.
If the owner of a vehicle requiring re-inspection exceeds the fourteen day period or goes to a different inspection centre, the owner shall be liable for the payment of the prescribed inspection fee.
Inspection Report and Certificate.
Inspection report and certificate shall be issued when a motor vehicle or a trailer passes an inspection. If a motor vehicle or a trailer that does not pas an inspection shall be issued with a defects inspection report.
How To Book NTSA Motor Vehicle Inspection In Kenya Online
1. Visit www.ntsa.go.ke (NTSA Website)
2. Under quick links, press the Book for Motor I Vehicle inspections. Here is the Link
3. Enter your ID Number and press the search icon.
4. Enter your first name as it appears in the ID and press the search icon(The other fields are disabled)
5. Enter phone starting with 254, username (Default is your mobile number), password (Default is Your ID), confirm the password, Subscribe to SMS alert and press Create.
6. Submit the application to create an account
7. Login into the newly created account
8. Book for inspection(Press the top left button ”Book for inspection”
9. Attach vehicles
10.Select vehicle category; PSV/Commercial/Private(Press Next button)
11. Specify the payment method NB: Every payment option has a guideline of the steps to follow. Make sure you use the right unique number.
12. After receiving payment notification, press complete payment.
13.Book for Inspection (A button on your top right).
14.Select the inspection centre and date. (Default date is the current date as per booking. You can change), then press Booking below the date option.
15.Print QR/Token ( you will produce it during the inspection day)
16. Present the vehicle for inspection at the centre selected on the date and time allocated.
17. The booking will be valid for 14 days from the date of booking. After 14 days the booking has to be done afresh.
